Professor Ed Davis is ABC Friends National VP and President NSW & ACT. He will explore the character of the bushfires that have had such a massive impact on so much of Australia over the past months. He will look at critical differences in the way that media have reported on the fires and the important implications that flow from this. He will comment on the ABC’s role both in terms of its presentation of news and analysis and the 900 Emergency Broadcasts so far this year.
Emeritus Professor Ed Davis AM Professor Ed Davis is Emeritus Professor in the Faculty of Business and Economics at Macquarie University. He was Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Financial Studies at Macquarie from 2002 to 2008. Professor Davis holds a Master of Arts from Cambridge, a Master of Economics from Monash and a PhD from La Trobe University. During 1992 he held the post of Distinguished Academic Visitor at Queens’ College, Cambridge.He was appointed a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2006 for “service to education and to the community in the areas of equity in employment, industrial relations and human resource management”.
Since his retirement from Macquarie University in 2008 Professor Davis has focused on executive coaching and mentoring with clients across a range of industries. He has assisted several universities with conflict resolution as a facilitator, mediator and investigator.
Professor Davis is National Vice President and NSW President of ABC Friends and a Member of the Resolution Institute. He is a passionate advocate for well-funded, strong and independent public broadcasting.
