JT (John Taylor) will talk about crewing aboard the 38ft timber boat "King Billy" in last year’s Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. Race preparation, smart navigation strategy, chaos at the start and high-speed sailing in black night are all part of what makes the Sydney Hobart one of most challenging yacht races in the world. He'll highlight the stark differences between the high-speed super maxis and the traditional Corinthian campaigns and what makes sailors come back year after year despite 4 days of enduring cold, wet and windy sailing. JT lives, works, and sails from North Sydney. Educated in Adelaide and trained as a stockbroker in Brisbane JT worked in Hong Kong for 9 years during the 80's boom and bust era. On returning to Sydney with a young family he started a printing and mailing business while still finding time to go sailing. He now runs his own property management business. Sep. 19, 2023 6:30 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
Is Hydrogen the Answer to Australia's Future as a Renewable Superpower". To ensure that the climate is stable and predictable the world needs to act now to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Australia, as a country, is neither causing nor exacerbating the problem but we must do all that is reasonably and economically possible to lead in emissions reduction and hopefully create jobs and growth in the process. This talk will discuss the problem and explore how Hydrogen could play a role in Australia’s Future Energy Vision. Australia is a lucky country and we can leverage our special position in the push to Net Zero by 2050. The talk will clarify the Hydrogen puzzle, describe the colours of hydrogen, and discuss what NSW and other states are doing with Renewable Energy Zones and incentives. Adjunct Professor Michael Dureau AM has a proven track record as a successful CEO and Chairman of Private, Public and Not-for-Profit Organisations. He was the Chairman of Engineers Australia’s National Committee on Fuels and Energy, Vice President Finance (Treasurer) and Chairman of the Chemical College Board. He is passionate about renewable clean energy and is a director of BioTek Fuels Ltd. And a member of the NSW Decarbonisation Expert Panel. He is Chairman of Coal Innovation NSW and was the Deputy Chairman of the ACT Solar/Wind Auction Panel. He is an Honorary Fellow of Engineers Australia (EA) and has been listed several times as one of Australia’s Top 100 Most Influential Engineers. Catering at the Diddy is by LUSSO Bistro.
