Rotary meeting 29/9/15

Fellowship evening

PP Ann introduced the guests, Laurier Sullivan, Merv Cardelli from Probus and Brian Jonson - PP of Marlow in the Thames Valley - district 1090. Brian commenced the Ebola initiative in UK starting in Liberia. Casually mentioned eradicating Ebola in Liberia and raised a lazy $200,000 or so in the process.

The Lane Cove Village Fair is upon us again, next Sunday 11th October. Thank you to everyone who has helped arrange this and to all those volunteering on the day.

Ann and Alicia gave an update on the fair.
For all those up the top, a reminder to assemble at Rotunda 9.30.

Update for Pottery Green activities.
Pottery Green Arena Show between 10am and 2pm.
There has been a lot of media interest and the coverage that the fair and Rotary is getting is fantastic for the first year back in Pottery Green. There are a number of sporting and other community groups that are putting on interactive games, activities etc down on Pottery Green along with food, rides and entertainment. As well as this Rotary is showcasing some of the charities it supports and has some stands on the oval. Hopefully this can draw more attention to Rotary and all the great work it does.

We are hoping to grow the Pottery Green section next year and are looking at ways to increase fundraising from that section. However for the first year back it is cost neutral and should the rides go well there is the possibility to turn a profit. Not to mention the various Rotary charities that are directly fundraising on the day e.g. Shelterbox.

Jenny is arranging the hamper for the raffle, if anyone has any items to donate to it that would be much appreciated.

Lindsay also requested Rotary do a survey at the Fair and build up club membership of both Rotary.

Laurier Sullivan provided a sad update on the Burns Bay Probus Club, which has shut it’s doors this year. Between 1992 and 1989 we opened five Probus clubs. The Burns Bay Probus in the nineties boasted 400-odd members. They were very grateful that somebody in RCLC decided to do this. Various presidents took up the challenge and opened up these clubs. The only surviving founding member is. Merv Cardelli. Lloyd Figgis named it Burns Bay Club because he lived there. Merv was founding VP and OC in charge of outings. At 93 still going strong. Merv handed back the chain of office that was originally provided to Burns Bay Probus by Lane Cove Rotary to the current president Jenny May. Lindsay May was given a special mention for being the outstanding speaker and turned up every year for eighteen years to talk on the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.
Currently there are only two Probus Clubs left in Lane Cove.
