Our Club's Christmas Party is on Tuesday 29 November cost $35 p/head.

As it is in a 'Bush Setting' we look forward to having a great informal festive time in a member's home.

There will be a BBQ with whole fish, grilled meat, chicken, potatoes, salads and even Pavlova for dessert, BYO drinks please. Dress casual party wear with a touch of Christmas colour & ladies bring a jacket for the evening chill.

To add to the occasion there will be Christmas carols and Santa's visit.

Past District Governor Pam Pritchard has been a long time supporter of "Books in Homes" for the Moree community students.

Her Turramurra Rotary Club with other Rotary Clubs in our region have raised astounding funds to supply books for the Moree students.

Aim:    To address problems for disadvantaged students, many of them Aboriginal, in the Moree area.

Goals:

• To provide computers for disadvantaged students in the Moree area
• To provide shelter for the ‘sit down’ lunch area at Moree East Public School
• To support indigenous literacy

PDG Pam Pritchard is a member Turramurra Rotary and is a supporter of "Books in Homes" Moree 

Six Rotary Clubs and 2 Rotary Districts combined to raise $9913 for the literacy project "Books in Homes" for Moree East PS. Students will receive two new books of their choice in Terms 1,2 and 4, a personalised book bag and a catalogue. District 9650 gave a $4000 grant to the project and District 9685 gave $2500. The Rotary Club of Young Leaders in D9650 applied for the D9650 grant, and North Ryde Club for D9685. Pudding sales by Turramurra, Chatswood/Roseville, North Ryde, Wahroongah and West Pennant Hills/Cherrybrook Rotary Clubs raised over $3,000. Turramurra and Chatswood/Roseville Clubs combined to donate over $2,000 to the project.
Moree East PS won the Secretary’s School Achievement Award in September 2021 for their Learning for Life Cafeteria. This prestigious award recognises NSW Public Schools that have successfully created a sustainable learning environment through a whole-of-school-project.

Meet Bec Healy, CEO of Boxhead Plastics an Australian-based (Berowra exactly) not-for-profit social enterprise who is taking car bumpers out of landfill and turning them into golf tees and drink coasters!

Only 11.5% of Australian plastic waste is recycled. Bec knew Australia had a plastic waste problem, but I did not realise we were at crisis point. With China no longer acting as the world recycler she felt she had to try and help tackle our plastic problem and Boxhead Plastics was founded in response to this plastic waste crisis.

In 2017 Bec started experimenting with polypropylene car bumper bars, handcrafting boxes from this plastic material. This is where the name Boxhead Plastics comes from.

In 2018 Bec enrolled at Lidcombe TAFE studying Polymer Technology. By 2020, Boxhead Plastics had successfully forged a chain of relationships that turns locally recycled car bumper bars into a feedstock ready for injection moulding. Today Boxhead Plastics manufactures the Naiteev Golf Tee and the Naiteev Drink Coaster from recycled car bumper bars.

Ahead of our Club Assembly discussions on updates on club activities, projects and future events, we will have and address from Molly Menzies.

Molly was endorsed by our club for the NYSF '23 (National Youth Science Forum) which was held online and in various locations in Sydney from 10 -24 January this year. Molly who resides with her family in Riverview is now in year 12.

The NYSF (a not for profit organizations) is dedicated to year eleven students who are heading into year 12 and are thinking about a career in science, engineering and related disciplines.

Molly reported that she had an incredible and life-changing experience through this program and is excited to share her experience with us!

Due to the high numbers of members being absent, including President Tania and PDG Lindsay May amongst many others, the meeting could not justify the expense to meet in the conference room and we had to cancel the speaker.

We have reserved a table in Urban's Sure Cafe where you can order and pay for individually.

Our esteemed member Kerry Moroney OAM a collector of all kind of Knives will give a presentation on

"The History of Knives from Early Civilization" with actual examples to be presented at the meeting.

This promises to be a most interesting presentation by Kerry!

WIRES Wildlife Rescue is the largest wildlife rescue & rehabilitation charity in Australia. It is a non-profit organisation providing rescue and rehabilitation for all native Australian fauna. All animal rescuers and carers are volunteers. 

“Our guest speaker is Jennie Murray, Head of Programs”.

Main Meal: Braised lamb shank served with mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables and red wine jus.

Peter Stanton, International Service Director with West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook Rotary has been greatly supportive with our club over a number of years with Nusa Tengara Timor Small Grants. His club is now the leader for generating support in our Rotary Cluster  for ongoing support for the impoverished regions of Flores and West Timor. Peter is accompanied by Tony Coote - the club's treasurer.

They will share the key experiences of the donor’s trip last November and the application for the WASH Global Grant Application- Ian Tena Village, Flores, Indonesia. And in view of  the historical support of our two clubs for NTA’ programs in Flores and West Timor hopes to garner our support.

Rotarian Adrienne Witteman is graciously hosting a social BBQ evening at her Longueville Residence for members and partners.

There will be Grilled Fish and Sausages, accompanied by assorted Salads. - To follow there will be Ice Cream and Fresh Fruit as well as a delicious home baked cake baked.

Beverages provided include soft drinks and wine as well as beer.

What to bring: a cardigan or jumper in case it is windy – if so, will eat inside but with doors open but hopefully on balcony.

John with Barbara’s help – Tell a holiday story – Not a ‘travel log’, or slides – just some ‘snippets’ from their holiday trip in January with their Daughter and family, through Germany, France, London, Wales and a stopover at ‘Raffles’ on the way home. 

Our adventure story will include – some spectacular accommodation, New Year’s eve in Heidelberg, living on Ile St Louis in Paris, Restoring Notre-Dame, Tower Bridge, Strasbourg Cathedral, travels in Wales, eating out and including ‘the wrong train!!

Tuesday after Easter Sunday we do not hold a meeting.

James Stevenson is an experienced Landscaper, Educator and Consultant.

He is also an experienced event speaker and has appeared in magazine and TV shoots on gardening and lawn maintenance.

For over 20 years he has been providing gardening & lawn maintenance, landscaping and consultation and has a team of up 4 staff.

James has a Horticulture certificate, Diploma of Horticulture and a Teaching Certificate Level 4 and has been a teacher at Macquarie Community College for 20 years providing 8-week short courses on Gardening and Landscaping as well as workshop day courses on ‘Do it yourself Paving’. 

- James is also the Vice President of the Eastwood Evening Garden Club as well as a radio presenter on Northside Radio (Chatswood) and 2RRR Radio (Henley Point/Gladesville.

Dr Lindsay McBride is a Senior Anaesthesiologist, working at both Crows Nest & Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown.

Interplast sends teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 Countries across the Asia Pacific regions.

Interplast representatives have an incredible story to tell. Having been on an Interplast surgical or development activity as a surgeon, anaesthetist, nurse or Rotarian observer, they can speak from first-hand experience of the life-changing work carried out by Interplast volunteers.

Integrally involved in the establishment of Interplast in 1983 with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Interplast is supported by Rotarians in clubs and districts throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Giving Deaf Children a Voice

Nicola Lloyd will be presenting on the work of The Shepherd Centre, a specialist early intervention centre working with children and young people with hearing loss across NSW, ACT and TAS.

The Shepherd Centre vision is to enable children who are deaf and hearing-impaired to develop spoken language so they may fully participate in the world, and in doing so, reach their full potential.

Their world-leading early intervention services encompass the needs of infants, toddlers, school-age children and teenagers. Programs include specialist child and family counselling, parent education programs, speech pathology, paediatric audiology, pre-school services, children’s play, music and art groups, school-readiness programs and mentoring.
