President Harry opened the meeting, and then asked Board members to check their action item for the board meeting Thursday.

PP Tania: Fair.. Now called Rotary Fair once again. So we need to be active and take ownership of it. 60 stall holders so far, marquees ordered; map for us; many more areas and stall holders than before. Sustainability Lane. Rotary will have a BIG presence. We will need to be there in force and easily identified. Brains trust to come up with method of responding to an interested enquiry re visiting us 'in hard copy' as PP Bob might say.

2 meetings of Fair committee so far. Minimal parking this year. Buses go to park complex. Rosenthal carpark closed.

In the Cove notices and TVO one free page.

Plenty of bands including Horns Plus.

Sunday 8th Oct looks positive. Get involved and enjoy the day. "Back to Lane Cove Rotary Fair".

Thurs moved to Tania. Friday Jeans day at school. Unusual because don't wear uniforms at home.  Sunday was fish and chips and ice cream.

Excursions next week: Going to Syd Opera House and then Driver Awareness Course.

Jenny May took all of his dinner money at the door for the art show. Ken took a whip around for him - in the form of corporal.

He made the Wescombes welcome to the sound of coin clatter.

Tania .. Leopard skin shoes. [the sergeant seems to like shoes].

Rtn Pat Price

Our matching grant has its first set of graduates. 90% of students graduated with over 85% passes in exams. very very good outcome for formerly illiterate kids. [Pat not normally given to hyperbole ... when Pat says very very then he means it. I personally think that this a watershed moment in the history of Nepalese education - because it starts with teaching the teachers the new method of instruction that does not require physical punishment. This has to be one of the proudest moments in Pat's professional life - and certainly also in this club's long list of amazing achievements].

Participation in institutions is diminishing. What is going on?

Addressing decline in faith. "None" is growing rapidly in surveys re religion of choice.

  • National study shows 15% go to church monthly.
  • SBNRs not counted.
  • Christianity in decline.
  • Older loyal to attendances.
  • Young to mega churches.
  • The whole of civil society is shrinking. Market govt and civil society need to be in balance.
  • Sydney Alliance trying to build common good group.
  • Pip succeeded Karen in Netball chaplaincy.
  • Now the community chaplaincy. Based on community y rather than worship.
  • Walk and wonder, meditations groups.
  • Layers to God to get through in a complex and fast moving society.
  • Walk of Wonder helps people to tune in.
  • Helps people to make connections with each other. Monthly BBQ lunch in a park.
  • The key is small groups and collaboration with other groups. Like chess in the plaza.
